  • Welcome : H. Buning I was in co . 080 back in early 57 could't wait to get out of boot camp wish was close to the 110 lbs I weighed then 25 cent for a hair cut them days are gone for ever. Think green we washed stuff out by hand . Dan he went thru 52 so that make me a boot .
  • I've been back to NTC a few times, most recently last month. "Liberty
Station" is OK, I guess, but It's weird to stroll the streets, remembering
marching to class, to chow, and the long awaited graduation on Preble
Field....I got a Subway sandwich and ate it on the Nimitz Bridge,
remembering all the times I'd marched across from the 'R & O' and
basic side to the much awaited 'advanced' side of the little channel.
Planes still fly over....of course, everyone dreamt of the day they would be on one, looking down at NTC.....
  • 1972, Company 086, March through May. I'm SO glad I went
through boot at San Diego rather than Great Lakes. SH1 Kirkeby
was our CC, a tough Seal.I've got a lot of respect for those CCs,
they had a hard job. This was Mr. Kirkeby's first company (he said),
and we didn't get any awards, but didn't screw up (re-sched.) any
    major inspections
  • Joined Navy August 30, 1972 ... left St. Louis that afternoon arriving in San Diego that evening. Was assigned to Co. 310. Graduated October ... and then headed to NAS Memphis for ADR training.
  • I joined the Navy on June 26, 1952. After a LOOOOONG train ride, I wound up at RTC San Diego on my 18th birthday, June 29th. I weighed 105 pounds, and stood 5'2" in my stocking feet. The Korean war was still on, and we had so many recruits on board that train that we had to hot rack, like the used to do on the old diesel boats. I believe that I was in CO 134, but I'm not sure anymore. I broke my left wrise grabassing out at Camp Elliott, where we got our first six weeks of boot. We were in the last barracks on Elliott, right in front of the chain link that fenced off the rifle range. In six weeks we hung five rattle snakes on that chain link that we raked out from under the barracks. At the end of six weeks they trucked us back to NTC and we finished up our boot camp there. Boot was sixteen weeks at that time.
  • I was one of the longest residents at rtc San Diego.Co444..After arriving in November 1972 I was admitted to Balboa Naval Hospital with pnemonia...Never made it back till Easter sunday 1973 and graduated in june 1973 co 125 CC Lavaughn Waterford
  • Company 919, 03 May 76 to 09 July 76. BT1 Rogers was the CC and he got booted out of the Navy on a BCD due to all the crap he pulled on us. NIS held Revielle on us at 0400 the morning we all departed and said they had our CC in custody and had complaint forms to fill out if we wanted to. He had 35 counts against him for extortion, assault, armed robbery and other stuff. What brought it all on was that he was found with another recruit's girlfriend in an office by the Base CDO!!!!! We started out as a bunch of dirtbags, but finished with all the flags and awards. Had to carry everything from Worm Island to the other side though, as we really screwed up an inspection that day.
