  I was at NATTC Memphis in 1974 and 1975 for AFunA school. Then I did the advanced electronics class. I remember having to do the barracks every week and then when I was an E4, I worked with the crew doing the cleaning. Master at Arms for a while also. I drove a little red Pontiac and had a friend who came with me often to go to the movies or swimming. She was stunning.  Any one here remember this time frame?

  Went to NATTC right from Boot Camp in December of 1964. I worked at ADR "A" School as the admin person for a while then ran the Coffee Mess at Basic Helicopter School. I was supposed to go to ADR School, but I passed the Naval Academy Exam and was  sent to the Academy Prep School in Bainbridge, MD in August 1965.

  Went to 'AO' A school 1976-77. Great times, they used to have a great club at that time.

  My first assigment to millington was in July 1953 (mess Cooking) then to AM"A" school training. I was back in the spring of 1960 for AM"B" school. Then, in July 1963 I return for Instructor duty: AME "A" school. Some good times and a few not so good.

  Welcome aboard Robert. Glad to have an alumni from NATTC. I was there from Sept. 66 till  Feb. 67. Remember my first time I low powered a Fury, when I got to the fleet it was a half of a cruise before I ran up a Skyhawk. I took it to full power.

  What a rush. felt like I was ready to launch.

  Attended Aviation Machinist (ADJ) A-School in 1966 - had a great time!!

  Now that you mention it Helena sounds very familiar.  I had a car at home when I got out of boot camp (1969 iImpala) and took it with me.  Seems to me I rented a spot at a millington gas station to park it.  After A school the car went back home to Ohio as I was assigned to VW-13 Argentia NFLD.  I cant remember the name of the hotel either but also remember the NO Beal Street!!

  Hello Thomas, you are also bringing back some memories, especially the locker clubs. Some folks were making a killing from the rule of no civvies on base. We used to hitchhike to Helena and West Helena Ark. Did not have a vehicle while there, but can recall riding in my first car with A/C, in the trunk no less. The linving quarters had no A/C, but huge fans to bring in the outside air. During weather alerts we would have to shut down the fans and suffer. I am now trying to remember the name of the downtown Memphis hotel that many sailors frequented. I do recall the advice "NO Beal street!"

  Jim I just saw your post pop up and brought back some old memories.  I was there in 61 to attend ADR A school.  My first job was 90 days of mess duty working in the Marine galley and my assignment was washing pots and pans, all day every day.  Not sure how I ended up there.  Liberty:  If I recall we used to run down to Jonesboro Ark.  They were more friendly than there in Millington and Memphis.  We had to park our vehicles off base and had rented lockers off base as well to put our civilian clothes.

  Was at NATTC Millington summer 1960 for AT "A" School. From the arid western U.S., this was my first exposure to humid weather. At that time "South 240" was the only air-conditioned building, but most of our classes were elsewhere. We would spend liberty across the border in Arkansas where folks were friendlier towards sailors.
