  • Remember, my reference is from a 1950s' Blue Jacket. Come to think of it I served from 76-80 and I don't remember seeing that rate.
  • I've got a 1950s' version of the Blue Jackets' Manual and Ron is right, it's a Radarman.
  • Hey James, I found it out on Google. It's a "Radarman".
  • CO. 216 May-Aug 1967. The headed to BE&E school the to RD A school.
  • I was in company 922, May 76.I remember the tunnel but we marched 3 abreast.Six squads. RPOC called cadence. The only ones I knew who sang were the hummers and strummers. Our company was state flags also.
  • Went to boot camp there in 1975, and back in 1988 to train recruits there at Drill Hall 1400,made Chief there in 1990,last official duty at the old fire fighting school in the middle of the golf course was to initiate us wannabe CPO's.What was funny was they drove the bus into the CO's POV when we went over there to sing him a few songs!! Nice to be here!!
  • I remember those bi-cillian shot in the rear. The CC's "Mashed" us all day and we had to pound on the check of the butt that they gave us the shot in. Remember I guy not doing it and the next morning when we got up he jumped out of the upper rack and went flat on his face breaking his nose. Those were some good times at Camp Moffet and Camp Porter.
  • Having been raised by my step-father a Sergeant-Major from WWII, I was tickled to be in the Navy. My first night in Camp Moffit they woke us up at 2 in the morning due to someone going over the wall. A cool March in 1971 but I was going to do all I could to get squared away and do it right, shame I spent so much time on Medical hold. I finally got released and made it to Camp Porter, seems we were the first two companies in our section. I grew up on Navy movies and I had my heart set on making it one day to Chief Petty Officer. I never even made it to graduation as they sent me to TPU and readied me to ship home. I did enjoy the few months I had, even though some called it tough, I loved it.
  • I'm allergic to penicillan. I got to watch the rest of the company got their shots and run around slapping their butts. If I remember correctly, I had to stand watch that night and listen to all the moaning about sore behinds.
  • Did my boot in May76.Grew up alot that spring. What really stands out in all my memories of RTC is what we called the "A" shot. The one where we were told to face the wall and they stuck you in the ___ with a big ol' horse needle full of penicillan. I still crack up thinking about our company of eighty men marching with a uniform limp.
