  • Remember haircuts...barbers would look for the guys with semi long or curly..or Mamas boys...which you could spot easily they were the ones cryin...
  • If I remember...some got the shot in the right cheek...some in the left..so marching was added to the mix the next day also...100 gimpy butted guys ..some limpin on the left..some limpin on the right...looked like a drunk catapillar

  • I was lucky to have a bottom rack. The guy in the next rack up top was one of the guys to hit the deck. I'm also glad that no one had a camera that day.
  • ROFL. I remember 72 guys walking around pounding on their butts to work the syrum out of the shot area and into your system. We looked so ridiculous. Thankfully, no one had a camera then. We had one guy that was so afraid of the shot that he jumped when the medic tried to give him the shot. He got the point of the needle, but not the shot, so they gave him 2 shots....LOL. So sad to see a "grown" man cry...LOL.
I wish I still had My Keel Book. One of the many things that the ex made disappear. It's so cool to hear from all of you. Thanks for sharing stories.
  • Bi cillan shot...makes my butt cheek cringe still fortunately I had a bottom rack...but like noted guys on the top found out the hard way
  • Was RCPO for Co. 025. Arrived at 12 Midnight after riding the Bus from O'hara. There were 15 new "Ricky's" reporting in from Columbus MEPS station. Service Weeks met the bus and rushed us in line and we stood there till we were formed up and marched to our barracks for processing. We finally got into the racks around 0200 and we awaken by our CC's at 0400. Remember one Ricky didn't get up and was asleep in the top rack and CC EM1 Alvin turned the rack over with him in it. Turned out this Ricky was one of our problem childs and we blanket partied him twice before he was set back. EM1 Alvin's nickname was "bulldog", and he always did one handed push up's when we were being crunched. We also had a few guys get cut when we were going through line for our shot. Who remember's the "Bi-cillin" shot? Had to pound on the shot sight and then get PT'ed to death on that side. Still the next morning we have a few guy's land face first on the deck when jumping out of the top rack. Brings back great memories of my boot camp days.

Fair Winds and Following Sea's to all
  • Hey, thanks Philip for confirming the urine in the garbage can event. I KNEW it happened... LOL Just no one believed me back on the outside. Like everyone here I'm trying to find more info about Great Lakes from the 60's. I still have my graduation pamphlet listing all those in the command at that time and what was going on. Check out my web site that I had done. http://rjrhm3.googlepages.com/home
  • Oh wow, I still have my Keel book from boot camp. It's fun to go through it every now and then just to remember the guys that were in my company. I guess I sit here and wonder what happened to some of these people.
  • I had a tough time finding anything about NTC Great Lakes also. It's like it was banned for some reason. I found some new pics, and on Google Earth, I can see where my barracks was, but it's not there anymore. Anything past that, I haven't found a thing, but if I come across anything, I'll be sure to add it in here and pass it along.
I also have a Bi..., Wi....EX! than made so many things disappear. Even old high School momentos. To be nice and politically correct, I just call her "BitchyPoo". LOL. Some day, BOTH of our Ex's will have to meet their maker and answer for many things. And even better yet, maybe someday, they will get to MEET themselves. THAT would be an eye opener for them.
  • I've been all over the INTERNET,and cannot find any pictures or info form the 60s' on Great Lakes...it's like it never happened...I did have a KEEL from basic but my 1st Bi... Wit....wife decided I didn't need all that stuff so she tossed it...PMO too...had some ummm let's say stuff from my last Unit...VAH 6...2 nylon green flight jackets and somehow a leather pilots jacket ...Don't have a clue how they got in my seabag...
