  I was in the original Co. 072/077 in Feb. 1969, and RTC Orlando was still under construction.  Now it's gone.  I attended Nuclear Power School at Mare Island, Vallejo, CA.  It's gone.  I served my Vietnam duty aboard the USS Enterprise.  It's being decommissioned this year.  My last couple of years' service was in VA as part of the first increment of the Precommissioning Crew of the USS South Carolina (DLGN 37).  I was discharged 5 weeks before it was commissioned.  It was deactivated in 1998.  Boy, am I feeling old.

  Thanks for the photos.  I was there the day the USS Neversail was "commissioned."  It was in 1969, probably the last week or so of April.  It was two weeks before I graduated with the original Co. 077.  There were only a couple of companies graduating since the boot camp was so new, so they had a couple of companies that would be graduating next out on the parade grounds to make the whole ceremony seem bigger.  Our "shipboard" training was done in classrooms and we never went aboard the Neversail.  There was no shooting range then, so we pretended to fire weapons.  It was too hot when we were supposed to go to firefighting school, so we watched slides of the Great Lakes boot camp firefighting school.  The new mess hall was completed before I graduated, so I did get to eat a few meals in it.
