It was sad when I found out NAS Cecil Field was shut down. Has anyone heard if they still are keeping it as a backup base for other future closures? One argument was made that Cecil is a prime base for it lacks all the development that other bases are experiencing. People move into the new homes only to start complaining about the Military noise which has put a damper on operations. I forget which base was the issue in Virginia but that is the case for closing it down and reopening Cecil to accommodate the troops. I saw on Google maps the tear down of Cecil field barracks and other buildings but all hangars are still in place. The commission stated it would cost a lot less money to reopen it than to build a whole new base. Gee, makes a lot of sense too me. That would be nice to see it reopen as it was a nice base overall.
As a reservist at NAS Lemoore, a fellow AE2 shipmate was at Cecil at the same time I was. We did not know one another at the time but we shared good stories. By any chance did you know a Ralph Lawless? Good guy.
