Read more…I was BM1 when I checked aboard just 2 weeks prior to workups for Iran Hostage Deal.Had alot of work to do as no one had been to sea together before, because Coral Maru had spent 3 yrs of overhaul in Bremerton, The Crew members had never been to sea together as a crew, most had never stood watches at sea.Fortunately SOLDIER OF FORTUNE Magazine had just did a layoutwith silhouettes of the Soviet Navy ships, I zeroxed them laminated them and posted them onall the watch stations....it…
Read more…My tour of duty on the Coral Sea began in Nov. 1986 and ended in Nov.1988. I was originally assigned to the Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department as the Leading Chief. I enjoyed the job, worked with some great Officers, Chiefs and Sailors. The boss was a Cdr Mason. Made Master Chief in May of 1989 and made the error of complaining to the XO, Capt Denny Mc Ginn about the HT's not fixing a leaking urinal drain. He asked me if I knew how to solve the problem. Read more…Hi, I was abord Coral Sea from Feb. 1951 through Apr. 1954. I'm not sure of exact dates, I'm not sure of anything at my advanced age. I think I enjoyed my time aboard the Coral Maru. I made some great friends, most of whom were in the V3G (Av. gas gang) division. I've had the good fortune to remain in contact with a few of my shipmates but, would sure like to hear from any others.
