Adrian, metal trays banging was like the quote from Appocolyps Now" the smell of napalm in the morning".
The guys who didn't care for the ambiance were working on the sterilizer. Us guy serving kept them in ice cream and pie most of the time. The only place I was stationed that didn't have trays was in Tokyo, We sat 4 men to a table with dishes and were served, just get up and leave when done.
In boot camp mess hall, and everywhere else I was stationed, we always enjoyed our meals on those metal trays. And the sounds of metal utensils banging on metal trays, always added a little ambiance to our dinning experience. Yes?
