  • COMPANY 187 NOVEMBER 1983. COMPANY COMMANDERS BTC QUAIR AND MASTER CHIEF SCHURR.
  • Went to RM A school there in San Diego Jan 1980
  • In addition to my tour at RTC, I attended Instructor and Leadership Schools at USNTC SDiego in preparation for RTC, summer of 1964.
  • Lots of schools, been to a few, after military, maintained the comm system for the base with Pacific Telephone.
  • 1956 Boot Camp RTC SDiego Company 56 - 266.
Arrived at RTC with an all Oklahoma group but was set back two weeks in training due to a bad reaction to one of the shots.
    1964 to 1967 Trained five companies of recruits. First company was 64 - 585, Then followed 65 - 093, 65 - 910, 66 - 320, and 67 - 144.
  • WENT THROUGH BOOT CAM JAN-MAR 1969, COMPANY 083, COMPANY COMMANDER WRIGHT. IT WAS COLD NIGHTS, WET AND HOT DAYS, I HEARD SOME GUYS DIED FROM SPINAL MENDGITIES (SP) IN ANOTHER COMPANY, KINDA SCAREY. REMEMBER MARCHING TO CHOW AND THE CHOW RUNNER WOULD BE HEADING OUT. 4050 ALWAYS SEEMED TO BE HANGING AROUND. MAYBE REMINDING US TO BE COOL HA ..
ALL THAT WORK ON THE GRINDER, AND THEY CANCEL OUR PARADE AT PREBBLE FIELD BECAUSE OF BAD WEATHER.
I WENT ON NATTC MEMPHIS, FROM THERE I SHIPPED OUT OVERSEAS FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, THEN SPENT MY LAST COUPLE ON THE USS LEXINGTON. (THE LADY LEX) I THINK WE BROKE A RECORD FOR TRAPS WHILE I WAS ON HER. KINDA ALWAYS WISHED I HAD OF STAYED AT LEAST ANOTHER 4 YEARS, AND WENT TO ASIA.
  • I went through boot camp in San Diego during the months of Jan-March 1968. It seemed my company 072, and all the others were pushed through very quickly. Also heard that all the motels around NTC were packed with new recruits waitng for a company. But in the short time that I went through they managed to embed plenty of memories in my brain to last a life time. Some good, a lot not so good. The C.C. and his adjutants could really be pretty mean. Oh well, I survived. Things were a lot better after graduation.
In the photo, I'm at parade rest third from the left. Our uniforms kinda remind me of those of revolutionaries rather than recruit sailors HA!

  • Boot Camp Sept-Nov 77 C264
  • I was stationed at NTC twice. The first time for Dental Technician "A" school, from April thru June '68, and again for Dental Technician "C" school in 1970. Some of my best memories are from NTC San Diego.
It was a beautiful base. I remember seeing Tora Tora Tora at a special showing at a theater near the base. Lots of Navy brass in attendence.
Made a few friends over on the MCRD side as well as Navy personnel.

Naval Training Center San Diego 1976

My name is Phil Mercuri. I was assigned to company 130 and was Squad Leader #4. Is there anyone out there who was part of my company. Our Flag Bearer's name was Hillary Wong. Unfortunately, I do not remember anyone else. Though I do believe there was on other individual named Ace Goodman. I could be wrong.

Anyone in company 107 1963 (February) Under HL Cutter  (I think we ended up as CUTTERS CLOWNS).  After boot I never saw but two (2)  guys in company ( one was named SMALLWOOD (who was a medic and I saw while in Balboa for knee surgery) and the other was COFFY ( I think went bowsanmate and I saw while TDY in Seattle.I  went directly to NAS North Island from boot.
