Arrived at RTC with an all Oklahoma group but was set back two weeks in training due to a bad reaction to one of the shots.
1964 to 1967 Trained five companies of recruits. First company was 64 - 585, Then followed 65 - 093, 65 - 910, 66 - 320, and 67 - 144.
ALL THAT WORK ON THE GRINDER, AND THEY CANCEL OUR PARADE AT PREBBLE FIELD BECAUSE OF BAD WEATHER.
I WENT ON NATTC MEMPHIS, FROM THERE I SHIPPED OUT OVERSEAS FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, THEN SPENT MY LAST COUPLE ON THE USS LEXINGTON. (THE LADY LEX) I THINK WE BROKE A RECORD FOR TRAPS WHILE I WAS ON HER. KINDA ALWAYS WISHED I HAD OF STAYED AT LEAST ANOTHER 4 YEARS, AND WENT TO ASIA.
In the photo, I'm at parade rest third from the left. Our uniforms kinda remind me of those of revolutionaries rather than recruit sailors HA!
It was a beautiful base. I remember seeing Tora Tora Tora at a special showing at a theater near the base. Lots of Navy brass in attendence.
Made a few friends over on the MCRD side as well as Navy personnel.
