  • I did two med floats on the ike i was in dc division first med i think i spent half of it in list control now if anyone doesnt know where that is it is close to the keel of the ship the propeller shafts are 10 feet above your head. My second med float iwas a Dc3 and stood dcws watch alot nicer place to stand watch as dc central is airconditioned. I left Ike shortly after that and went to the gator navy, what a shock to the system that was.
  • Served 94-97 in S-7 which eventually became Combat Systems.
  • Only served on board for 2 years due to being back-to-back sea duty but got to do the Millennium Cruise in 1999-2000.
  • I served two tours on IKE from Jan 82-Dec 84 and from April 88-Nov 91.  I also served on IKE on a two week reserve training Cruise i-n July 1977 prior to her commissioning.  The first tour, I served in S-1 division from Jan-March 82 then at CNAL as IKE Beach rep and SFOMs coordinator from March 82- September 82.  From October 82- December 83 I served as LPO for S-9 Division. From Jan 84-Dec 84 I served on the Master at Arms force.  From April 88- November 91 I served on IKE as S-1 Division LPO.  I look forward to hearing from my shipmates.  I retired July 31, 1995
  • I was stationed on IKE in the middle 80's and got out during that "re-up, extend or get out" program while on the Med '88 cruise. Made my goal of becoming SM2 while there - best ship and crew and I'll miss both.
  • I was on Ike from October 2001 to July 2003 as AIMD Officer. Unfortunately, that whole time was during a Refueling Comprehensive Overhaul (RCOH), so we were in Newport News Shipyard the whole time- my third ship in that shipyard. I would love to have been onboard when she went to sea, but it was cold iron the entire time I was there, and in the drydock for most of the time.
  • GMG1 Peacock, I was on board prior to commissioning. Reported Aug. 1977 & departed Aug. 1981. In G-2 Div. (Armory) at the beginning, until G-2 was combined with G-3. Ike was a great ship, but it was a long 4 years.
  • I was onboard the IKE from Oct 77 until Jun 79 as a Radioman in Facilities Control.
  • I've heard rumors of Ike's return date which I won't post here for obvious reasons. If anyone living in Norfolk or Va. Beach could get some pictures of her passing by and post them here it would be appreciated.
  • I was on the Eisenhower in the late 80's, when she was refueled in Newport New, we moved on the USNS Darby, a peice of crap, I really miss the IKE, I would like to connect with the old friends, We had many good trips that live in my mind,, to all the sailors and there families,,

Cruise 88

Any of you on board when we returned from the Med in 88?  We had SECNAV Leman on board and the CO was Capt Beck.  As we began our turn to Hampton Bridge Tunnel we struck an anchored tanker and took out the antenna between El 1 & 2 as well as the deck in the CO's in port cabin.  We had picked up Tigers a day before.  Man what a day.
