Cruise 88

Any of you on board when we returned from the Med in 88?  We had SECNAV Leman on board and the CO was Capt Beck.  As we began our turn to Hampton Bridge Tunnel we struck an anchored tanker and took out the antenna between El 1 & 2 as well as the deck in the CO's in port cabin.  We had picked up Tigers a day before.  Man what a day.

  • I remember this well, we were all manning the rails and fires broke out

  • Yes I was.  I was LPO of S-1(Stock Control) Division.  I remember that cruise very well.  We were late returning to port because we ran into a Spanish Coaler in the harbor.  I was on the flight deck when the collision occurred. The collision did a right good bit of damage to the starboard side. As I recall, The CO and the Navigator were relieved of Command.  Capt. Dantone relieved Captain Beck.
  • Well, I was not onboard when the IKE returned. However I was part of the "re-up, extend or get out" group that left in the middle of that deployment.

    How's it going Larry?

Traitor! You switched to MA! j/k!

I miss the IKE, along with all the other commands I was stationed at during my brief stay in the Navy.

ps, I still say there were only two lights! You should remember...

    Take care
