  • Hello everyone.
I was in Gitmo from 1980-81.
Assigned to the AAWC on Crain Hill.
  • John, You must have lived over on Mainside with the upper crust and the expensive Bud. We were a little "ghetto"coming from the wrong side of the Bay. Haven't made any decision on Branson as that is down the road a bit yet
  • Hey Jim, I always remembered that the beer was 15 cents and 10 cents during Happy Hour. You must have had a real "IN" with the bartender to get beer for a nickel. Is there any chance that you will join us in Branson this year?
  • I was stationed at GTMO Feb.'69-Feb.'70. Worked at the LOX Plant for Chief Sullivan over at the Air Station. The Plant was located at the end of the runway overlooking the bay. Remember $.05 Buds during Happy Hour at the outdoor E.M. clubs. Also those damn crabs all over the roads and the outdoor movies.
  • Our 2010 reunion in Branson is scheduled for October 25-29th. We will be headquartered in The Lodge of the Ozarks. Anyone interested can check our website at www.gitmobay.org or call me at 717-266-1102.

  • Hello GTMO Vets! I was stationed in GTMO from '86-'90. I was assigned to the Airstation - Ground Electronics, then transferred to SIMA on an extenstion. Later I was re-assigned back to the Air Station - Ground Electronics on a reenlistment.
  • Was stationed @ AIMD Support Equipment from 86-91.
  • The Guantanamo Bay Association held its 2009 reunion in Gettysburg last month. We had 53 people in attendance and look forward to an even larger group next year in Branson. The majority of those in attendance were in GITMO in the 1960s, but all eras were represented. The staff at The 1863 Inn at Gettysburg were fantastic and I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Gettysburg area. The Branson dates are tenatively set for October 25-29. More details can be found at our website www.gitmobay.org.

  • I remember walking guard with a nightstick and white helmet liner and the beer parties. Had a decent time there.

Gitmo, 1968-1969

I arrived here from Norfolk in January of 1968 and departed in August of 1969. I was a commissaryman 3rd class petty officer (cook) at Bay Hill Galley. When working the steam kettles I often had a wet towel around my neck to help stay cool. I lived in a separate barracks across from the galley for all the cooks called the “cook shack.” We had a small patio behind the barracks where we sat in the evenings and told stories and sang country music. Being a cook had some advantages as we could go…

My Time in GTMO

I was in GTMO from April 1969 to April 1970. I worked at the O2 N2 generating plant that was adjacent to the Fuel Farm on Leeward Point. We didn't live in the barracks, we stayed in a Quonset hut right at the site. We worked for Chief Charlie Sullivan. Looking back I would say the time spent there was pretty enjoyable
