I never had the opportunity to serve. However I first got "infected" when I was 6 and my dad, who served aboard the USS Sargent Bay and then the LCI 713 in the Pacific theater, took me to see the USS Forrestal in the early 60s. I was hooked.
I don't get a chance to get down to the 713 that often but when I do I enjoy every second of it as it allows me the chance to be on board a vessel similar to the one my dad lived and fought on.
I just hope that the AFMM is able to secure the funding necessary to not only bring her back to life but to find and restore other amphibious forces related vessels. We'll do what we can to keep their legacy alive. We're a better nation because of all those that served and I don't think that all of you can be thanked enough !!
