"Wow, I know exactly where that is. Pretty area up there. Punta Gorda was never the same after Charly huh. I assisted the Army Corps of Engineers the day after it hit. We were in there doing the assessments and checking roofs and seeing who needed…"
"Bill, I appreciate that offer of help for my Mom.. Thank you VERY much Shipmate! Ill keep that in mind. There definately was a lot of trees to cut up down there after that hurricane wasnt there! Some of those beautiful old trees that use to line the…"
"PS... I use to live in Venice, Grew up there. At first it was out in Venice East then just before we moved my wife and I lived just off 41 Bypass near Venice Avenue. I was born in Largo Florida but Dad's job had us relocated in 1969. I enlisted in…"
"Hey, Thanks for the hello Bill. Well, the old hat has been with me for years, its shows huh. I'm just an old country boy, always have been. Grew up on a cattle ranch in SW Florida. After I enlisted I wore my boots and another old hat when I went to…"
It was pretty sad after Charlie. I was amazed at all of the aluminum wraped around just about every tree and pole. There must have been total disaster in mobile homes down there. No problem about helping out if your Mom needs help. That's what shipmates are for. I hope the need never arises but if it does just send me the contact info then.
I had friends down in Punta Gorda after Charlie. I went down a couple of days with water and paper towels and helped them cut up some trees. It was quite a mess. Sounds like your Mom is only about 15-30 minutes from us. If she needs something and you can't get here soon enough, let me know and I might be able to help her out. I am in the handyman business and have tools coming out of my ears. I can pretty much handle anything. I have a friend in Maine who's mother has a trailer in Venice and I have helped her out a couple of times.
We live near the intersection of S.R. 70 and U.S. 301 in a small development called Candlewood. We are about 5 miles West of I 75.
I worked down in Punta Gorda, as a plant manager, about 15 years ago. On the drive down and back I saw hogs on the side of I 75 quite often. A few times I spotted deer but not too often. I love to fish but don't often get the chance. I'm 68 now and work for myself as a handyman now. I hope to completely retire at 70 and get some serious fishing in then.

I'm Bill Karr. My son Doug created this site and I help him out a bit. We hope that you enjoy it.
