Yep, remember the names now. Harry Cannon, a British tech rep lost his job because of a contract snafu. George Huckel was another rep. The guy that was killed was AT1 Lawrence Gallagher. He was TAD to AIMD from VQ-2 (as I was) and VQ needed aircrewmen so they lured him into the program. He was building a house somewhere out in town using scrap lumber and cement. He had a VW that was a wreck from hauling stuff in it. I do remember Chief Wright. I think he took over from Paschal. Lonnie Meyers bought and had shipped to Rota a dark blue 1966 Chevelle with a 396 engine. he loved to go out on the back roads and open it up. The base perimeter road was a good place to do that. Art Carter made W01 at Rota and later LDO and retired, probably in Texas, as a LCDR. Do you remember a big guy named Gernsey, AT1? He ended up here as a NAESU rep. He passed away a few years ago... Just before I left Rota in July, 68, in June The CO of VQ-2, Cdr Ted Daum lost his life along with a couple other officers when the A3 they were flying in took off for Naples, full of fuel, lost an engine and crashed about a half mile off the end of the runway in a sugar beet field, The 3 enlisted guys in the back made it out but were banged up pretty bad,

After retirement at 30 years, 1 month, March, 88, went to work for Boeing Commercial Airplanes in Everett, WA, for almost 15 years. First 7 years worked as a factory installation electrician on the 747 installing everything in the cockpit except the seats. All the displays, control boxes, etc. and did a lot of wiring, splicing and hook ups.. When 777 came along transferred to that program until I retired in 2003 as a factory QA inspector. Great job and company to work for.
Some Rota names come to mind. Tom Blair, Ripka, Fred Brown, Chief Bedrosian, Chief Wingo, AQ1 Gary Seigler, AQC Kennedy, AT1 Jim Bruckner, AT1 Del Story, AT1 Art Carter, off the top my my head.
Retirement here in the Northwest is outstanding. and Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island a great place. A sportsman's paradise. Mild winters, cool summers and zero humidity. Doesn't rain as much as you might think. Most heavy rain is in Seattle area. We get lkots opf cloudy days in the winter and little to no snow,. .
Yep, that's me. AIMD 65 to 68. Lt Buck was DO and CPO Paschal was div CPO. Left Rota, went o instructor duty at NATTC Millington AT "A" school. Made Warrant Officer, moved to Whidbey Island and spent 20 of my 30 years right here, sea and shore duty with A3s then EA-6Bs until I retired in March, 1988. 2 Vietnam cruises with squadrons on Hancock and America, 3 Med cruises on Kennedy.
