Fred, I haven't been in this site since January, I got hit with a virus that took it all. So its been a long process to get back in touch with all sites and email address. I really don't hat happen to Andy. I found out from Roy Thornley about four years ago. I did run across an article on Andy in the Alcatraz Prison newspaper. It was a long article tell of his wood working ability and running the wood working shop. It had a couple of comments from Andy on two things he did on ship. One was building the dining room set for the Dentist aboard the Markab when we wen overseas in "66". He mentioned working with another guy, which was me. When we broke down on way to Subic and getting pulled into White Beach. I got transferred off because discharge time was up and he told me he would send me my share of money. Sure glad I didn't hold breathe on that. In the article he also said someone stole the set when we got stateside. Knowing Andy, I would say I think I know where it went. Enough said on that. I liked Andy, we had a lot of fun with him, but I never would have trusted him with money.
Fred, Mike Murray here. Read your post to me asking of my home town, well I'm still here (or here again) in Colorado Springs, Co. Your name sounds familiar but my memories are fading. There was a kid named Pease from Mass. that I remember because I traded duty stations with him after graduating. And some one else had mentioned Scotty on this site and I seem to remember him from being from San Francisco, Napa valley or northern Ca. And what was the name of our German Chief PM instructor?
Paul Beyer here, was on Markab in Pattern Shop with Waymon Bryant and Herman (Andy) Anderson. from 63 to 66. Made to West Pac trips. Last one was when we broke down and the towed us into White Beach and I spent ten days in NAHA waiting for a plane state side for discharge. Great duty. I spent the next 41 years job shopping in Calif, Arizona, Kansas, and Iowa in the trade. Seen the trade go into almost total computer age and kept up with it about half way through. Retired finally in 2009 and still do some consulting work. Navy days was great, gave me a good trade, had some fun and met some life long friends. You should go to USS Markab web page. We have reunions everyyear and great time. We still has a few WW2 Vets. Mostly made up with Korean and Viet Nam era Vets. Last year we was in Rapid City, SD in Sept.
