While on the Anchorage, participated in a couple of amphibious landing. One with RoK Marines, no NVA to be found anywhere, just girls on the beach selling cokes and beer. Nice and easy1
The 2nd landing was of ARVN's. Uncle Ho's nephews were all over the place, heavy artie from NVA guns and lots of fire fights.
The ARVN's launched AMTRACS off the Anchorage, one of them didn't come up. Poor bastards never had a chance to get out, they just sunk.
Like they did with Denver, Navy had the Anchorage hauling materials out of Vietnam and were sending in to Guam. n Our skipper decided that there was no reason for us to be stay on the Anchorage, So be detachment ended up on the Blue Ridge for her first cruise.
