  • I do remember the blisters for the first week or so. I do remember the Boondockers but not leggins. After that I got on the 50 states flag team and got some mole skin. About all I remember is guarding the cloths line on the roof and spit shining my shoes.  You should be glad it was November you were there and not August. Had they started the ship on the grinder when you were there. I graduated before they broke ground.

  • In Company 016 (11/1968) we were in tennis shoes for the first two weeks then Boondockers and leggings until week 6 when we took the leggings off, cut our belts and switched from ball caps to white hats.  Some of this I remember like yesterday.  I had cellulitis when I got impacted blisters marching in tennies.  I spent a weekend in the hospital because of it.  I received my only PI gig and marching party assignment (punishment) because of a loose thread showing in the half moon of the brass buckle clip.

  • I was in Co. 4 and we marched in boots.
