When I was in Submarine School back in the winter of 1975, I remember the USS Los Angeles (SSN 688) when she was a new boat tied alongside of USS Richard B. Russell (SSN 687) which was pretty new herself. The Los Angeles was the first of a new class by that same name and the Russell was the last of the 637-class (Sturgeon-class). Hard to imagine that they are all but gone now.
