  • My last cruise was an Around-the-World cruise onboard USS Coral Sea (CV-43). Departed NAS Alameda and visited Subic Bay, Singapore, Pattya Beach Thailand, Hong Kong; transited the Suez; then visited Naples (twice) and Cannes France. Spent time in the Gulf of Sydra when Ghaddafi threatened to sink the USS Eisenhower, spent more time off of Lebanon, and even more in the Caribbean.

  • Did an "Around the World" cruise 1970-71 on the USS Wainwright DLG-28. Left from Naval Base Charleston, SC in 1970, traveled through the Panama Canal, served in Vietnam, Korea, Japan, became a Shellback, and took the long way back home to Charleston via the Philippines, Malaysia, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.

  • Left Norfolk 2/15/1968 on the USS America. Rio (lost an A6 and crew practicing for an air show for Brizilian Military). Past Cape Hope, refueled by British Oiler off Madagascar, through the Sunda Straits to Philippines. Four line periods on Yankee Station (lost 3 more aircraft and several air crew) with stops in Philippines, Japan and Hong Kong. Home via Sydney Australia, Wellington New Zeeland, Cape Horn, Rio and back to Norfolk on 12/15/1968.
  • Oh yeah forgot we just got out of the Suez when the Stark was hit. A pretty tense time for all. We were ready and couldn't believe they didn't turn us around.
  • Did it on the USS Stein FF-1065 in 1987. Golden Dragon, Order of the Ditch, Shellback, Order of the Rock, Safari through the Suez, Sailing the Spanish Main, and Loyal order of Magellan. Stops in the Philipenes, Diego Garcia, Mambasa Kenya, Tormalinos Spain, Puerto Rico, Montserrat (for the Queens birthday).
