oh I see, when was this dispensary built? I worked the Recruit Evaluation Unit at RTC from 1969 to 1970 and I do not remember this building. Had duty over at the hospital psych ward every 4th night from 4 pm to 8 am and worked one weekend a month there, 8 am Sat to 8 am Mon. Transferred to hospital in early 1971 and remained there until discharge in Aug 72. Joseph we must have passed each other in the chow hall or somewhere on those ramps, where did you work in 71 and 72? You must remember the head of the nurse corps at that time, CMDR Maun? I worked with HM3 Petty, HM3 Reilly, HM3 Carl Michaud, HM3 Dave Miller and a bunch of others whose names I cannot remember to save my life. We were kind of isolated in psych. Ward 2 was at the far end of the hospital across from the chow hall so I did not get around the rest of the hospital all that much ... did not stand duty on the medical wards or the ER, I guess they figured we NP techs didn't know that much about medicine, even though I worked general surgery at Bethesda and took care of lots of Marines and after discharge did a stint at the veteran's hosp in Tampa working surgical and cardiac ICU.
I lived in the barracks behind the hospital until summer of 71 and then moved off base to the del Coronado apartments, close to the base off of West Colonial Ave.
I am cleaning my dad's house and recently found my old sea bag, issued in boot camp in 68 at NTC San Diego ... found my old Blue Jackets manual and the work books for PO 3 and PO 2 and well as HM 2 and 3. Looking at that stuff, it is amazing how much I have forgotten, if I had to take those tests again today there is no way I'd pass, I'd still be an HN! Have not gotten to the bottom of that sea bag yet, perhaps I will find some pictures of the RTC or the wooden bldgs. at the hospital and I will post them.
Joseph, thanks for the info, it helps jog my memory ... we must have sat at the same table at the chow hall at least once, the place was not all that big. I ate most of my meals there even after I moved off base ... breakfast 25 cents, lunch 85 cents, supper 65 cents ... at those price, why eat anywhere else ... and the food was good, too ... cooked to order breakfast .. I should have it so good today.
when was this hospital built? I left in '72, do not remember any plans to build a new hospital. I worked in the old wooden buildings connected by those covered ramps ... anyone have pictures? I worked psych, Ward #2, across from the chow hall.

I was in Orlando from 74-77. Worked in the dispensary for a while, then the family practice clinic at McCoy. I've been looking for Barb Kohut. I think she worked on ward 4.
FYI, there is a great site on Facebook, Naval Hospital Orlando, FL. There are a few of my era of the old WWII hospital on the site. Worth looking into and maybe hooking up with someone.
Just had someone remind me Ward 6 was Central Sterilization and Supply.
