I just thought there should be a place anyone who served at any time at any command could go and throw out a thought, ask a question or gripe!

I saw an old post about age requirements to advance.I don't think there was an age requirement.I was a kiddie cruiser.Joined 2 weeks before my 18th birthday.I hit the testing schedule just right.I was a Radioman when they were rating at 100% during the Cuban missle crisis.I made RM2/E5 in less than 3 years.

So, I am going to try an experiment and see if we can do some house cleaning in this command! Excuse me! Sorry, I meant swab the deck!Somehow the comments have reversed themselves and the most recent comments show up at the end instead of the beginning. We have to be supportive of Doug these days as the site seems to be experiencing a growth spurt, which is good!

I suppose that technically the "Cold War" ended when the Soviet Union did. I realize I may catch some flak from Jerald Terwilliger on this. But, I still think it is mis-named. A "war" should involve combat and casualties as a result. While there were some incidents where we lost people, most were accidents.
Even though I enlisted during the end of Viet Nam, I was lucky not to have been deployed. So, I don't consider myself a Viet Nam veteran. I served in the Viet Nam era! There should always be exceptions. The crew of the USS Pueblo should be entitled to the "Korean War" pin. The crew of the USS Cole should be entitled to the "War on Terror" pin. It should always come down to "are you in harm's way?'!
Like Mr.Balla,I too have seen military people with enough bling on their chest that I need my sunglasses. What I wonder sometimes, though,is did they really earn them?I've seen recuits fresh out of boot camp with a pin.Hades,I was surprise to get my only pin,sea service. And like Mr.Morris,I studied and got ESWS,however it was something to do on deployment. But it was hard.Today I feel they just give awards for showing up for work.Has anyone read the book"Stolen Valor"?Really a good book. It's mainly about Vietnam, but I believe the subjectof the book is true today. Why does a person avoid war,but after the war thet strut around with medals and stuff they didn't earn? One last thing,a line froma Steven Segal movie, were he is a cook and the captain even tells him:
I could make a bed with all the medals you have.
You know Chief, it mirrors what going on in the schools too! No more being held to any standard! Just promote them whether they can read or not!
I am going to sound sexist here, but.... could it be they don't want it to be too 'difficult' for the fairer sex to accomplish or now that DADT is gone the "fairy"sex too? Ooops, my bad! I am a bigot too! Oh well!
As I sit here and look at my grandfathers DSC and all his other medals, at least I know what it took for him to receive them! Pure bravery!
