Enlisted or not! This room is for everyone!

All are welcome to join this group!

I just thought there should be a place anyone who served at any time at any command could go and throw out a thought, ask a question or gripe!

  • Then to add insult to injury, it seems the former paid directors of the museum squandered millions over the years they were there!
  • Hey Jim Balla

I just read somewhere there is an effort on to move the Olympia to Mare Island. Since the primary problem with the ship is the needed hull maintenance, I wonder just how they would make that trip! I read somewhere else she is in jeopardy of sinking where she sits!

    Chief,

I'm working on my list! My pet project is in need of all the input I can find! So, I may have to email them all to you instead of trying to post on here. I'll send you a friend invite.

  • OK

Jim, What Questions would you have?

  • Welcome aboard Chief Morris! I may be calling upon you as you are a recent retiree! There are some questions only a Chief can answer!
  • A lot of vets worked real hard to save the Forrestal and the Saratoga! The Navy has now offered them the JFK as a museum ship. Let's hope they don't renig on that promise too!
  • As a proud crewmember of the USS Forrestal, I am very disappointed in the path the the Navy has taken for that great ship.  The ship can be used in so many applications.  I'm sure there are many sailors that would volunteer to serve as crewmembers again.  I visited the USS Intrepid some years ago and believe that the Forrestal and other ship's that share the same fate could be used for historical landmarks.

I would be first inline to serve as a staff member of any ship museum.  We need to teach and share our experiences as to honor those that served before us and sacrificed so much.

  • The last I could find said there is a problem with the reef idea because of the usual EPA and enviro-mentals! The expected result is for her to be scrapped. I completely agree with their survivability. There are so many uses they seem to ignore. Especially the carriers because of their size and content. If they were placed in needed area they could serve multiple uses, disaster command centers, training facilities, housing homeless vets that would work on them in exchange for housing and the list could go on!

They are spending upwards of 34 million to clean up the Forrestal so they can sink her or break her up. Imagine how far that money could go to save her and use her!

  • and Forrestal is soon to follow! What a waste!
  • Yes, I realize you "Aviation" guys are a special group! But, that would mean you are uniquely qualified for a carrier Like the Lex or Midway!
  • I am just wondering how many vets on here would consider donning their utilities again and spend a little time on a historical ship as a volunteer crew member? Even if it was only a day or two a month?

I'm wondering if we can use this forum and not have people get lost!

I have been informed by our CO, Mr Karr that these forums may work a little better than the "comments" section. So, I am going to try an experiment and see if we can do some house cleaning in this command! Excuse me! Sorry, I meant swab the deck!Somehow the comments have reversed themselves and the most recent comments show up at the end instead of the beginning. We have to be supportive of Doug these days as the site seems to be experiencing a growth spurt, which is good!
