Betcha that there is no way that this kind of stuff could happen today!
Well, I guess that it is called progress?
Never went to the club at all. The reason that I went to Bainbridge was to close to my home for a couple of months. I am from Lancaster, Pa was about 35 minutes away from the base from my parents house. Had my car so, I stayed at my parents and lived like I was I civilian for about two [2] months.
The Chiefs at the A school made it easy for me, guess it was because I was a sea sailor. I had the duty of turning on the lights and the coffee in the morning. So I would drive the 35 minutes in the morning, get to the base, park behind the school, open the door and turn on the coffee and lights. When the day was done, I was gone. After a 13 month cruise to West Pac this was welcome change from the sea going routine.
Knew that I wanted to get back to West Pac. Also knew that PAMI was located at Bainbridge. Ask the Chief at the A School to introduce me to the " Appropriate" individual that made the YN assignments. Meet with him, went down the open assignments list and found the open billet for TACRON Eleven, Two bottles of whiskey latter, had me orders for this command.
Once I finished up A school, I went back to the ship, Paul Revere LPA 248, to pick up some gear I had left behind. Boy did those orders make the PN Chief of the ship in San Diego madder then Hell.
Told sorry Chief, but this is what BUPERS wants, so I got to follow orders. So long!
