  • I remember Subic Bay the morning I reported aboard my first Destroyer,as she steamed in from Australia Feb 14, 1957...It was a very hot & humid day,but fortunately I found enough activity to keep me from being too lonely for one man to bear,as the local welcoming committee made me feel right at home.Later, after reporting aboard my ship I was given Liberty, and along with my new shipmates, went back ashore and resumed my friendship with the welcoming committee, plenty of good ole San Miguel to go around...Can't ever forget those days.

What is in Subic and Angeles now.

I am living in Angeles City and have lived here for about 7 years. There have been many many changes BUT... It's still the same Philippines.Have not been down to Olongapo for about a year. The base is still recognizable as a former U.S. Base but it has been its all commercial now.I even have a friend of mine on the base. He is Japanese American and he runs a company making solenoids. There is almost nothing in Olongapo proper that is fun entertainment wise.Barrio Barretto still has many bars,…
