Subic/Olongapo 1990-91
I'm doing some research and would appreciate feedback from those who were station dito at Cubi or SRF in 1990-91. Personally, I was there in the early 80's so much of my recollection is irrelevant for what I am looking for. 1. Bars and hotelsWhat memorable bars and hotels were around at that time? I remember a few from my time, but I'm sure they were long gone. 2. The JungleWas this still a thing in 90-91? Anyone remember bars from there? 3. SR FenceWhen did the fencing go up on the bridge…

Jack the AL is still there, had a SMB each time I visit Olongapo City, also a small bar by the VL station that we would grab a cold one before heading to BB.
Was Stationed Ditto from July 1981 till Jan 83, had many successful missions across shit river... Worked at Boat Pool as an Engineman had a great time, it was definitely a learning experience. I wish that I had made my own cruise book, I kick myself all the time for that. If I try to explain to someone about that place you just can't do it without pictures...lol
Pulled into the base in 62-66 while stationed on two ships homeported out of Sasebo. Use to go to the Sky Club and watch movies, than dance with the women who would sit at your table for 25.cents per hour, they would drink soft drinks. When coming back from liberty in town, use to buy a fist full of "monkey on a stick" meat to eat when returning back to the ship. Actually, it was just chikcen. Great times, beer was cheap and the women were hot. Use to pay 20 centovas for a bottle of beer at American Legion. Remember Paulines bar where outside they had ducks where you could buy one and feed to the alligators.

Where else could you go where they sharpened the kitchen knives on the curb, and hung signs out front the restaurants that said "We buy German Sheppard Puppies"?
1969. I remember my first crossing over sh*t river. I almost gagged, HA!
I also seem to remember, then in a near drunken stupor, the band's playing of "Black Is Black" by the group Los Bravos. It was an upstairs bar cuz my buddy helped me down the stairs. Also ate that sweet cooked meat on a stick that was cooked on Hibachi's in the street. Didn't know what it was but, I had the munchies and it tasted great HA! Good times.
I was there on 2 cruises on board USS Enterprise 74-75 cruise & 76-77 cruise attached to VAW 113 " The World Famous Black Eagles"
Philippines, US confirm US Navy's return to Subic Bay
Kevin, in our latest exchange you asked me to direct other USN that had been in Subic to this site. Well, yesterday an old shipmate sent me a post on FaceBook for the folling: Owyn Bradford HP - Ancient and Majestic Order of S**T River. There were many on the site that were stationed there. In fact one of them will be returning the first week of February. There was another asking about the best places to stay while there. Anyway if anybody is interested in taking a look at this site it might be interesting. As for myself I am doing everything in my power to get back to the PI to finish out my retirement. As always it is good to exchange thoughts with you..
Paul check I think I posted the Mojo recipe here some where. My first Mojo was at the old Mariaposa bar at that was at end of Magsaysay,it is in the movie "Officer and a Gentlemen"at the beginning. The deal was there to drink a pitcher with out stopping and you would get a free "bar fine"that day,of course that is if you could walk afterwards.
