Subic/Olongapo 1990-91
I'm doing some research and would appreciate feedback from those who were station dito at Cubi or SRF in 1990-91. Personally, I was there in the early 80's so much of my recollection is irrelevant for what I am looking for. 1. Bars and hotelsWhat memorable bars and hotels were around at that time? I remember a few from my time, but I'm sure they were long gone. 2. The JungleWas this still a thing in 90-91? Anyone remember bars from there? 3. SR FenceWhen did the fencing go up on the bridge…

Thanks David, I live in the Philippines now,and visit the old base once in a awhile, there is more car washes on Magsaysay now than bars.If you know anybody (USN) that has been there, invite them here,I have tried to contact Yvette to change that ugly picture but she must be in hiding.
Subic City!!! First time drinkin' the "Mojo"!!! And of course (Home of the short time)!!
Thanks for the suggestions Kevin. I go down to Oxnard two or three times a year and on my next trip I will stop in at the Seabee base there Port Hueneme. It is very likely I will be able to find the information I am looking for.
On another matter. I need to thank you once again for suggesting the site subicbaypi.com. The site has lots of information and articles on Subic Bay and those of us that had the pleasure of serving there. I still haven't had the time to read everything there.
David not sure on the clean up,I know they had a lot of SEABEEs stationed there, you might want to research who was there then and maybe with luck they have a page here.GOOD LUCK.

I left Naval Station Subi bay several years before the volcano erupted, but I was wondering if anybody could tell me how the military cleaned up our bases i.e. what was done with the ash, etc. And a related question would be how long afterwards was it before we started closing the bases and how long did that take? I have seen pictures of the base covered in ash, but nothing indicating how it was cleaned up. Thanks in advance.
Terry, Grande is still there but mostly used for party's for the giant Hanjin shipyard here now.
remember "Grande Island",in 68 i was shore patrol, while awaiting a ride to the yorktown cvs-10,off north korea, for "peablo crisis"
