Naval Base Subic Bay was the lower part of the base that was connected to U.S. Naval Air Station Cubi Point and abutting the Bataan Peninsula in the Philippines.

  • The Navy allowed me to ship 2 butterfly knifes back to the states,but they had to be inclosed in a glass displaly case.I forgot what ever happened to them.

  • I had purchased a cool butterfly knife  in Subic City that Customs took from my locker when I was in Hawaii (1978) !!!

  • I remember those little road side stands on base that sold all kinds of wicked native weapons that included an assortment of swords and knives.  And blow guns to boot!  Even during those days having these weapons on base was illegal if I remember.  Yet they were there, sold,  and we bought them.  We always just hung them on the walls of our barracks cubicles.  And they were left behind when we were transfered, or went home.   Anybody ever keep theirs?

Subic/Olongapo 1990-91

I'm doing some research and would appreciate feedback from those who were station dito at Cubi or SRF in 1990-91. Personally, I was there in the early 80's so much of my recollection is irrelevant for what I am looking for.  1. Bars and hotelsWhat memorable bars and hotels were around at that time? What is in Subic and Angeles now.

I am living in Angeles City and have lived here for about 7 years.There have been many many changes BUT... It's still the same Philippines.Have not been down to Olongapo for about a year.The base is still recognizable as a former U.S. Base but it has been its all commercial now.I even have a friend of mine on the base. He is Japanese American and he runs a company making solenoids.There is almost nothing in Olongapo proper that is fun entertainment wise.Barrio Barretto still has many bars,…
