The first thing I noticed at Clark was the instant humidity that rushed into the 707 when they open the doors. And I felt it on my skin as we debarked from the plane. Our school bus was painted Navy grey lol! Maybe that wasn't such a good idea considering the Huks. No mesh on the windows but we had a Filipino guard with a shotgun on board. I think there must have been maybe a dozen of us, (variety of ratings), all with orders to Subic. That was one long and sometimes bumpy ride. I some how managed to fall asleep, (jet lag catching up). It was late that night when we arrived at some perimeter gate and were boarded by armed Marines with flash lights looking us over and checking IDs. We were finally allowed through. Spent that night on some transient barracks barge at some dock. What a trip.
Spent many a nite and some days in Olongapo.
