USS Cone DD-866 transited twice in 1963 going into and out of the Indian Ocean.
Made a southbound transit April 1965 aboard the U.S.S. Bordelon DD-881. As we were the only Man o War going south.we were the lead ship and they hung what was said to be a million candle power light from our bow. We had charged firehoses manned to ward off boarders and bum boats. I think i saw Ahab the Arab riding his camelk too.Al Larivee BT/3 U.S.N 1961-65.
Transited the canal once in '79 on board the USS La Salle (AGF-3), while on the way to Naples for refit. I remember it as taking a long time to go a short distance.
I knew that, but since it is my home town I had to make sure you didn't mispronounce it again.
Just wondering where New Port is.
Went through it on the USS John F. Kennedy CV - 67 on our 81-82 WestPac-IO cruise.
Did the Ditch" on USS America during 80-81 cruise. I think We were the first "supercarrier" to transit the canal. Nimitz flew air cover both times. Was quite an experience. Will have to dig up pictures to post.
I transited the Suez Canal from South to North on board the USS Briscoe DD-977
We were the lead ship and our CO played CW McCall's song Convoy on the topside speakers.
