  • Came aboard as an AZAN after leaving AZ "A" School in Meridian Mississippi in September of 1979 in P.I. (Subic Bay) and finished the tour, got my shellback initiation out the of way. I was there during the dry dock period as well Paul. I went back for a second tour of duty in 1084 and did the whole shake down cruise and then the following WestPac. This is one of the U.S. Navys greatest ships period and I look at my cruise book quite often and think back and get totally euphoric remembering Singapore, Hong Kong, Papau New Guinea, Sydney Australia (WOW), Hawaii, and Hobart Tasmania.Hope to hear from some of my ship mates here.
  • Reported aboard in 80 as an ET3 and was assigned to repair HF radios after completing satellite weather recording equipment C school. She was in dry dock until early the next year which worked out great since my wife was expecting my second son in a couple of weeks. Had a great time on my first cruise, especially PI,, and returned a shellback. Had enough time to make part of the second cruise but the ship ended up needing repairs and spent my last month on board in PI, what a pity. Flew out of Clark AFB an ET2 on my way to NAS Chase Field in Beeville Texas.
