The second USS Tripoli (LPH-10), an Iwo Jima class amphibious assault ship, was laid down on 15 June 1964 at Pascagoula, Mississippi and launched on 31 July 1965. She was named for the Tripoli War.

  • I think I just uploaded several pictures of the USS Tripoli sitting in the AM VETS ship dismantling yard i have seen three carriers including the forestall,and other ships be re-purposed (scrapped)  

  • 1977-79 AO2 Fox Division in charge of Armory which was the best duty on the USS Tripoli. Switched to Mobile Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit as an Operator. Kept in touch with C/O Alfred Smith, X/O Paul Barnes, LCDR's Wayne Fischer, Pat Sena, Jake Anthony, GMG2 Gary Boeglin, FTM2 Bernie Miller, AOAN Ulysses Austin, GMG3 Raymond Zaharevitz (Ret. EOD Chief), SN Eric Amundson, GMG1 Keno Nawrocki and several other shipmates. Switched over to U.S. Air Force as an Officer. My favorite assignment was on the USS Tripoli. The ship was recently sold for scrap last year and is currently located in Texas.

  • Tilting T, very good description! My first command '83-'87, ND Airman worked fuel dept frocked AMH went to AIMD . Great memories...should have never gone to VA128, worst move ever!

  • Was first command out of IC a school. 2 west pacs, 1 overhaul...lots of good memories on board 7/79 thru 7/82

  • Tripoli was my first command out of boot from 1972-75. Non designated airman assigned to AIMD. The tilting T as we called her was a good assignment and one with a lot of memories.
