  • Had 3 tours with the Green Pawns.  Homesteaded in Hanger 122 with a little 4 1/2 detour over to NAMTRADET 1003.  Even found the underground shelter for the whole hanger.

  • Attended AE Framp school. Transferred to the Green Pawn at the end of the Gulf War and worked many, many hours and weekends catching aircrews up on training. At times it felt like the hangar turned into the wind for the next launch. :) LPO for the AE Shop, then went to Quality working all three shifts before becoming LPO. Also got my Aviation Warfare Specialist there. Alot of great people were in this squadron.

  • WO1 and CWO2 from 1972 to 1975.  AT and AE Branch Officer, Maintenance Duty Officer, CQ Detachment Maintenance Officer in USS Lexington (CVT-16).  Earned NATOPS Qualification and flew Maintenance Functional Checkflights in A-6E.  ( I am also a Private Pilot and own a Piper J3C-65 Cub.)  I am a Life Member of the Association of Naval Aviation.  GREEN PAWNS FOREVER!

VA-42 in the 60's

Was assigned to VA-42 in 1962 when they had AD-6's. Wondered what they needed an AQB for on an AD-6. In early 1963, I think, we got the first couple of A6A's. Whill stationed there trained VA-75, VA-65, VA-85 and a couple of others, including a Marine Squadron. VA-42 used to have a green pawn as its logo. When did it change?
