  Actually the original sim belonged to the air force....we had an open house in 60 and some air force brass noted the serial number..checked it out..and it was missing from their inventory.. After that we had to give them equal time.  Night check maintained it and AF supplied some techs? to run it on their turn.  I also worked on the 15WV flight and EWS as well as the 2F-58.

  OK guys it was an R6-D  I worked (played) on it in 60-61. Remember one pilot we gave an engine fire to. He feathered then dumped fuel. Lit the whole thing up. BTW are you members of the Tradevman Association.  We will be getting together in the fall of 2014 in Vegas.

  Yes, We still had DC-6 and The DC-6 simulator was a lot of fun.  I had  Simulator Mec. duty some times and when pilots did not show up, we had fun flying it.  We use to take it up and nose dive it to see how far we could burry it in the ground (simulation).  Ha!  We had to put it into reverse (prop pitch) to back it out. They didn't teach that in flight school!  Not too many people knew we had reverse on the DC-6.   Wonderful experience!

  Stationed at BP from 1968-1972.  ADR3 in VR-21 Flight Crew.  Spent my share of time in simulator as well as East-Pac and West-Pac flights.  What a great time in my life!  Would like to make contact with others that served there during that time.  VR-21 has a reunion every year.  Next one is in Florida in 2014.  Contact me for details.  Had a great time this year at Reno, Nevada reunion!

  Hey Brad! 

  Brad and I worked together at AIMD.  I was there from '73 - '77.  I remember being in awe of the Super Connie that landed there one year.  That R-3350 engine was humongous!

  I was stationed at Barbers Point with VR21 from Dec 1965 to May 1968. I made a couple deployments to Atsugi and to Alameda and had some of the best times of my life. I went back to the old base last year and sad to report it's hard to  recognize the place. It is totally run down. There is a small but growing Navel Air Museum there that is keeping the history of the base alive. You can search them under Navel Air Museum Barber Point and it will bring back some old memories.Other than the museum there is one monument to show that the Navy was ever there.

  I was stationed at NAS Barbers Point with VP4 from Oct '70 to Aug '71.  My tour included six month deployment to Japan.  From VP4, went to Seattle for separation, as my tour was up.

  I was stationed at NAS Barbers Point from November 22, 1973 to June 13, 1977.
  I was an ADR3 assigned to AIMD Reciprocating Engine Shop, and a CDI for QAC.
  I mainly built Pratt & Whitney R2800 QECA's for the C-118, and occasionally an R1820 for the S-2 and T-28.
  Anyone on here that was at Barbers Point during the same time frame?

  Hi Johnny, As bad as my memory is now I do think I remember hearing something about that. How about this? Do you remember that Salmon or pink colored 54 ford Victoria that was on base.? Bet you wished you had that 56 your standing by now.

  Hey thanks for the welcome Johnny. I was at Barber's Point  from Jan 1966 till around March of 1968, then transfered to U.S.S. Valley Forge LPH 8. I did know a couple of guys from VP6 but mostly if I wasn't on duty I was at Nimitz beach or one of the beachs around the base. Wow what great times. I didn't go to school to be a ADR but was always very good with tools. If anything serious needed fixed on those prop engines we would just change it out. I have Google Earth on my computor and that software took me everywhere i've ever been, thats what got me here wondering about NAS Barber's Point.
