  • Bet Squadron commander was Capt. Drum. Ornery old duffer. His Exec was Richard Chamberlain, huge man, and a good pilot. Once in 1963 he was Second Pilot to the best ever, Richard Burton, commander of N28424 .Secretary of Defense of Peru got stranded in Texas, so we took a boondoggle and flew him back to Lima. Got drunk in Panama on warm green beer. . Crew mates somehow got me on the plane. Cdr. Burton shows up in shades and asked second mech if plane is gassed. "yes Sir, planes gassed and so is the crew"

NAS Barbers Point

I was stationed at Barbers Point from April 1967 to April 1969 attached to squadron VC-1.   I played on the squadron volleyball team and softball team.  Also drove a school bus for a school year, that was like being in McHale's Navy.
