  • Hey Guys.  I was at Det 3 59 to 61. Didn't work on the R6 but it was our favorite toy. Worked nights mostly. Night check didn't stand duty so we always got off around 1630 on Friday and it was off to the beach for the weekend. Did 5 or 6 luaus with some local folks we got to know and "Aunt Mary" alway made sure we had wahines there.  Only had one bad week....survival school.  If you know any TDs..have em check out Tradeveman Association on facebook.   We will have another reunion in Oct.

  • Aloha Vets,

Spent 28 months as a aircraft mech. in VR21 with a couple of temp assignments in NAS Atsugi Japan. Didn't know it then but now I see it was one of the best times of my life. I'm very happy to have that to look back on.

  • for all BP vets...bet you enjoyed siamin......its easy...google it...lots of recipes abound....happy slurping
  • I was at Det 3 also...from Aug. 1959  thru Oct 1961.  Made second just when I was separated from active duty.  worked on everything but the P2V and 2F23 but I did fly em. Went back in Sept. 09.  Air terminal bldg. is still there..unchanged...think they still had the same posters on the wall.  Barracks look like they did 50 years ago...now homeless housing.  All TDs invited to our reunions held about every 2 years. Last in Vegas in 2010. Visit NAMBP.ORG .  Drove by Navy Memphis about 6 years ago...only bldgs I recognized were wing one and two of the barracks.  Galley gone.   They did have a cute red head SP2 at the gate.

  • I was stationed at NAS Barber's Point the first time right out of bootcamp. I arrived on base at about 1930 25 Nov 75 and the main gate and the women's barracks parking lots were flooded. My first night was spent on a cot thrown into the rec room which had been cleared out that day and just six months prior it had been a men's barracks.

NAS Barbers Point

I was stationed at Barbers Point from April 1967 to April 1969 attached to squadron VC-1.   I played on the squadron volleyball team and softball team.  Also drove a school bus for a school year, that was like being in McHale's Navy.
