Naval Station Argentia is a former base of the United States Navy that operated from 1941-1994. It was established in the community of Argentia in what was then the Dominion of Newfoundland.

  • I served there twice Aug.1951, to Dec. 1951 poured concrete for air craft parking area. Then shore duty July 1953 to Sept. 1954 as transportation dispatcher.
  • I was there 1962-63 with VW-13. I really enjoyed the place and met a lot of great people.
  • Must have, you know I was thinking how many people climbed that "hill" behind the base. Myself and two buddies of mine did just that and found a bunker and two big naval guns. I also loved it when lobsters were in season and you get huge lobster for two bucks.
  • Harry we must have missed each other by months. I served in Argentia from 59 - 62. I was the editor of the Foghorn (base newspaper).
  • I served from 62 - 64 with VW 11. I've heard that most of the hangers and buildings have been dismantled or torn down.
  • Just want to say hello. I was a Corpsman in Argentia from 74-76. Best time I ever had. Never seen the ocean freeze beofre though

 I was at Argentia from Apr '69 to Jul '70. I was called Spud because I was from Idaho, but I'll admit, there's nothing, even today, that I enjoy more than a baked potato. Although I was a SeaBee, I was sent to NBC at Bunker 519 to work for DC1 Brandt. I guess I was chosen because I had already received a secret clearance when I was in Vietnam.
