  • Arrived in Dec. 1968 for BP&E school then BT/A school. Coldest winter in my life, for a Florida boy.

  • I also worked at the Transient Personnel Unit at Great Lakes from July 1972 until November 1975.

  • PERSONNEL SUPPORT DETACHMENT APR 1987 TO AUG 1992

  • I attended boot camp at Great Lakes in November '76, Company 356, but I wound up back in GLakes about a year later, working at Bldg 2023, Cold Storage with a great bunch of civil service guys, another sailor and an army vet specialist, who inspected the food. Delivered all those yummy frozen eggs to recruit side, plus fresh and frozen edibles to main side, hospital side and even the odd trip to NAS Glenview from time-to-time. Not the most illustrious of naval careers, but I count it a great privilege to have served in any capacity.

IC-A School

I attended BE&E School, and IC-A School in 1969.  Lived in Snipes Castle, stood tornado watches, and I remember when they first let us keep civvies in our lockers on base.  I went to Nuke School in Mare Island (Vallejo, CA) in Jan. 1969, then S1W Prototype in Idaho in July.  Then the USS Enterprise for an all-expenses-paid trip to Vietnam.  I ended my six-year with a couple of years of new construction in Virginia (USS South Carolina, DLGN-37).  The South Carolina has already been…
