  • Best Carrier I have ever served on I had alot of great friends there even though I was just with the airwing onboard it was awesome!!!!!!!!!!! 94-96
  • yes i remember this, i was on the uss constelation in the indian ocean during the iranian hostage attempt, we spent 110 days straight at sea and yes we were served two cans of beer, i sold mine for 30.00 ea because i do not drink, we got hit from the rising star it was a civilian merchant ship, i was with vf-211 tad to ima in the jet shop, i was working on the test cell testing a tf30 engine aqt night when we got hit, and then when did get liberty we went into singapore and made the front page of the newspaper because of the fights in town.that was a long cruise. made alot of friends.
  • I was onboard the USS Nimitz from Sept/1979 thru
May/1980. The rescue attempt of the Iranian hostages occurred during this cruise. I was a member of the VA-35 black panther's old A6 squadron. We were at sea from 1/2/1979 thru 5/27/80(?) without any liberty. They actually gave us beer during this cruise. I also got my shellback card for crossing the equator during this cruise. Is there anyone out there that remembers this?
  • I was on board the Nimitz during the Desert Storm War, I was with VF-211 flying F-14 Tomcats, we were the Fighting Checkmates, out of NAS Miramar San Diego Cal.The Nimitz was my last carrier to be on before I retired from the Navy. I made two Cruises on her both going into the Arabian Gulf.
  • I was on board the Nimitz, with VQ-2, when she got sent to Iran, during the hostage crisis. They yanked us off just as she passed the Rock of Gibraltar. We were told that if we were still on board when Nimitz cleared the Straits, we were going to stay with her all the way to Iran. Shortly after being taken off, they sent 45 of us, and 2 "Whales" with flight crews, all the way around the world to join up with the "Ike". Hmm, maybe we should have stayed on board the Nimitz. LMAO

Ship,s Roster at commisioning

I was assigned to the Nimitz on the original pre-commissioning unit in 1972 and transferred on the day of commissioning. I would like to obtain a list of the crew on the day of commissioning. Also, if anyone out there was on the pre-commissioning unit please reply.

We lost 14 and more then 80 wounded. I was in aft BDS and all the class V and wounded were located midship and foward.. Up all night hit the rack at 2pm I worked with CDR Dan Golden who was oral Surg aboard chief Dental officer who identified dead.
