My Time On The Fort
Hey Shipmates! I was on the Fort from early 1979 until sometime in 1980. I made a West Pac on here ('79). I was an IC-man (made E-5 on the ship). Dennis Fields was the LPO. Hello,
My father was QMC Richard F Chapman. He was a plankowner and was stationed aboard The Fort as a Plankowner from 1972 - 1977. I, too, was an honorary Plankowner since I was christened on the bridge the day of commissioning. Just thought I would stop in and say hello.

I was stationed on the Fort from 1976 to 1979 as part of A Gang. In memory of Perl Harbor Day here are some photos I took around 1977 when we stop at Perl on our way over on West Pac. Some of the photos include ships company visiting the Arizona Memorial.
My First ship ... reported onboard and met the ship in Subic while she was on the 75/76 Westpac. Was part of OI Division. Served on her for right at 4 years. Have nothing but fond memories of the FORT. This is a Picture of Rob Varney and Me (Rusty Hopp) in CIC during one of our WESTPACs ... Great Ship.
Looking for JP Shafer, John Getz and anyone else from the engine rooms or anyone else who used to party at the apartment in Long Beach.
