  • Hello,

My father was QMC Richard F Chapman.  He was a plankowner and was stationed aboard The Fort as a Plankowner from 1972 - 1977.  I, too, was an honorary Plankowner since I was christened on the bridge the day of commissioning.  Just thought I would stop in and say hello.

  • I was stationed on the Fort from 1976 to 1979 as part of A Gang. In memory of Perl Harbor Day here are some photos I took around 1977 when we stop at Perl on our way over on West Pac.  Some of the photos include ships company visiting the Arizona Memorial.

My Time On The Fort

Hey  Shipmates!  I was on the Fort from early 1979 until sometime in 1980.  I made a West Pac on here ('79).  I was an IC-man (made E-5 on the ship).  Dennis Fields was the LPO.  I transferred to the Prairie (AD-15) next.  I late went to Officer Candidate School and got out of the Navy as an O-3E.  As an Officer, I served on the Sterett (CG-31) which was stationed in Subic Bay!  I remember the GMs shooting sharks and swimming in the well deck.  One time we carried some Seals somewhere and we…
