ANYONE ELSE THERE?
22NOV1975 flight ops off the coast NW coast of Sicily. It is just a few minutes past 2200 we have just heard the evening prayer from the Chaplain, and the collision alarm starts sounding. The USS John F Kennedy suddenly rocks sharply to the starboard side. The GQ alarm is sounding. I am 18 yrs. old and aboard my first ship for just 3 weeks. I was on-board with VAQ 133 from 1976 until 1979. we did 1 North Atlantic and 2 MED Cruises.
Ships company 1974 - 76. Navigation Division. As much as I liked the cruises, when I got out in 1977 I promised I would not do that again. Now I wish I had just one more chance. After the Kennedy I served several months in NAS Jax then was assigned to the USS Independence for one cruise.
I was on the USS John F Kennedy from 1972 to 1975, I was a Supvr in Facility Control, I enjoyed the Med Cruises, The ship was commanded by Capt Ghormley and Capt Yates
I served on board the USS John F Kennedy from 1990 to 1994 as G-1 LCPO & Flight Deck Ordnance Chief. Was there for all the Desert Shield/Storm action.
Joined JFK in late 1971 relieved Rm1 Gerwhols as LPO for communications. Our skipper at the time was Robert Ghormley.....Bullet Bob
I served aboard the ( SLACK JACK) as it was called under CAPT. YATES COMM. one 9 month med. & one 6 month unexpected med. we sat 33 days off coast of libya with 2 other carrier groups . Ready for the BIG ONE.
