Thanks, glad you had air conditioning. I probably minded the heat, especially in the galley, but they had a salt tablet dispenser there for us and I guess when you are 23 or 24 and in excellent shape you don’t mind it as much as today at 73. Or maybe I just got used to it. I did not inlist until I was 20 and had graduated from technical school. I got my draft notice then but chose the Navy over the Army, especially with the Vietnam War heating up.
Hi Jim, I was stationed over on the base for 18 months in 1968 and 1969. I was a cook at Bay Hill Galley. I never got over to the air station unless I was going on leave or leaving the base permanently. I thought that they call the Hill and galley Gold Hill now? Unless that is somewhere else on the base. I used to get a rack on one of the ships that was there for fleet training and go on the weekends to Haiti or Jamaica. This was my last duty station before being discharged at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in August of 1969. I had duty at the EM club about once a month and helped break up more than one fight there.
Hi Jim, I drove tractor-trailers for St Johnsbury Trucking Co. We had a terminal on Hollywood Ave., runs off Durham Ave.. Went out of business in 1993.

Yes, I do remember you. The other dog's name was Snoopy !. The little guy you were talking about was Gayle Patten. I remember he kept track of the sodas and pot pie dinners that we bought ! There was a 3rd or 2nd class PO named Lloyd Sampson and he was always ragging on another guy named Steve Bales. If I remember correctly, didn't you live in New York ? I work in South Plainfield. Here's my email at work jtrubbo@multiplexinc.com . maybe we can get together after work sometime to talk about the good old days in the Navy.
