  • Jim, sorry to say found an obit from Ray Schuman. 

    Raymond Clyde "Ray" Schumann, Jr., 70, of Waco, passed away Wednesday January 6, 2016. Visitation with the family will be 5-7 pm Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco.

    Burial with military honors will be held later.

    Ray was born May 17, 1945 to Raymond ("Pie") and Mary ("Mollie") Schumann in Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised in New Braunfels and graduated high school as valedictorian in 1963. 

    Ray attended Baylor University until enlisting with the United States Navy in 1966 and serving in the Vietnam War. Among his duties thereafter were mobile mine countermeasures, fleet combat training, and fleet area control and surveillance, and he served on the USS Virginia and the USS Seattle, among other vessels. He received several significant awards, including the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Navy Good Conduct Medal with Four Stars. 

    Upon his retirement from the Navy in 1988 as Master Chief Operations Specialist, Ray settled in Waco and returned to Baylor, completing his bachelor's degree with a triple major at the College of Arts and Sciences. He was an avid fan of Baylor sports, particularly football and women's basketball, attending as many games as he could.

    I still remember you recruiting me for teaching AMCM to the Iranians in Tehran. Very happy that didn't work out. as I'm sure you are.

    I've reconnected with Dave Smith and Bruce Griffiths (who were too short to make the trip to End Sweep. We also connected with Roy McCarthy. We get together a couple of times a year. I'm living in South Jersey near where I grew up. I spend a couple a months touring the southeast in my RV. Where are you?
