"Hi Smitty,
You can call me Jim. I was in the navy twice. First time, I was in a patrol squadron, VP-6. Our home base was NAS Barbers Pt. in Hawaii. We made deployments to Adak, AK , Naha Okinawa and NS Sangley Pt. Philippines. That was from July…"
Hi Jim, I also did two enlistments. The first was a Kiddy Cruise because I joined up at age 17. The second enlistment of two years got cut to one year and six months because of President Nixon cutting back the military in 1969. I retired 2½ years ago from the Springfield Newspapers, now called The Republican. I did 40 years there. Apparently you don't know Chuck Caldes, also from Westfield. He lives near Shaker Farms CC. I went to boot camp with him in 1965. -Smitty-
Hi James, I don't know you, but you live not far from me. I live in Palmer, MA. I have a Navy buddy in Westfield named Chuck Caldes who I golf with every Tuesday at Franconia in Springfield when the weather is right. I served as a Navy Radioman 3rd class from 1965-1970. I used to communicate with the USS Forrestal when I was stationed at a communications station in the Philippines. Just thought I'd say hello, as we are somewhat neighbors. -Frederick Smith-
