The Pier at Buckner Bay, Okinawa, May 1972

Look closely and you will see the aft brow coming down to the pier from the main deck of Hector. The box at the center is the dumpster we had to put trash in. Only a few yards to carry it. NOW imagine it starts to rain as me and Skip Carington are carrying one trash can out to dump. By the time we got down to the pier, we were both soaking wet. To the dumpster and back to the top of the brow took us about three minutes. When we got back up on the main deck of the ship, there was THREE INCHES of water ON the pier and it could not run off fast enough! I learned about RAIN that day!
