  • The mess on Yosemite was a pretty special place for me since i made Chief on her in 93. I had a blast during initiation and the Chiefs onboard did it (me) right (old school). Being an east coast sailor getting a seat in "J" school was almost impossible, I think alot of it had to do with class convening dates not working with my transfer dates and commands just did not have the money (at least for ML's) for school. The joy of 32nd street was that we were away from SSC. MLC Cooper, MLC Lafferty and MLC McDonald were my instructors and PMC Jellyman was the only one i remember on the PM side.
  • JOE, WHEN I WAS ABOARD WE HAD A REAL GOOD BUNCH OF CHIEFS ABOARD. ONE THING I DID FOR THE NEW CHIEFS WAS TO CAST, BUFF, MOUNT AND ENGRAVE A CHIEFS PLAQUE FOR EACH OF THEM. WHEN MLC HARRIS WAS ABOARD HE HELPED ALSO. I CAN IMAGINE THE WORK YOU TWO HAD BY YOURSELFS. ALSO ENJOYED YOUR "A" SCHOOL PICS...THE FOUNDRY LOOKED THE SAME WHEN I WENT TO "A" SCHOOL IN '74 AND "J" SCHOOL IN '78. I CHECKED INTO SERVICE SCHOOL COMMAND IN '88, AND WE MOVED TO THE NEW SCHOOL........FRESH PAINT AND EVERYTHING NEW.....ALMOST ANYWAY.........I BELIEVE THE SCHOOL IS AN ART GALLERY NOW......TAKE CARE.........JIM
  • Jim, I have the same scar. The last I heard Rojas went to recruiting duty in Miami after the yoyo decommissioned. just kidding about the scar. Decommissioning the Yosemite was a pain ML1 Ott and I were the last 2 Molders onboard and we were humping to get all of the decom plaques and stuff done. Plus we did a special thing for all of the Chiefs onboard, so I had a bunch of help from the mess. It was fun seeing people like the HMC, YNC and CMC buffing plaques.
  • SERVED WITH ROJAS ABOARD THE YOSEMITE.....THAT BRIGHT YELLOW VENT BRINGS BACK MEMORIES ALSO, I STILL HAVE A FIVE INCH SCAR ON MY LEFT ARM FROM THAT VENT. IT SOME HOW CAME APART AND WHILE TRYING TO STRAIGHTEN IT I SLIPPED AND CUT MY ARM......12 STITCHES LATER............IT'S ALL GOOD............
