USS Slater (DE-766) on station in Albany, NY
She could use a crew! So, if you live near her, dig out those utilities and head on down! The original crew members are passing quickly these days. We owe it to them to keep her alive and functional! You know you miss it!

Actually there are four DE's in total. The Slater, Stewart, one as a museum ship in Brazil(USS Reybold (DE-177)) and one that was active up to recently in the Philippines (USS Atherton (DE 169) )! The Slater is due for hull maintenance soon as well. I have been trying to convince the ships's super to pursue getting her GM engines running too! Now that the new CEO of GM is a tin can sailor from the early 70's. Dan Akerson was an officer on the USS DuPont (DD-941). No time like now to try and get them to fix em! They move the Slater each Winter for storage till Spring. I think she should run under her own power and sail south during the Winter and spend a month at a time at other museum ship locations!
It amazes me how much has been done for so little by the WW2 vets on Slater! Makes me wonder why other museum ships need so much money and are in such sorry shape. It's not the vets that love and care for those ships! We know where the blame lies! Incompetence, laziness and greed!
BT Reed, they can use anyone that has the desire!
