The second of the Spruance Class destroyers, commissioned in 1976, and the first on the west coast. Decommissioned in 2003, she is the US Navy's Self Defense Test Ship, and the last of her class still afloat.

  • Hi All,  I was a plank owner on the PF Flyer as we called it then.  It was 1976 and I was a DS1 in the crew.  Some of the guys I knew are:  ET1 Gary Adams, DS1 Jack Howell, DS2 Ron Sewald, ET1 Richard Tacak, Chief Ford.  I was also privileged to attend the decommissioning in Seatle along with 32 other plank owners.  Glad she is still afloat
